Czech Republic experiencing record-high population decline

In the first three quarters of 2024, the population of the Czech Republic decreased by 3,318 people, reaching 10,897,237 residents.

This includes the refugees from Ukraine, who are counted in the statistics.

The main cause of the population decline was a record-high mortality rate relative to birth rates. From January to September, 64,236 children were born in the country, which is 8% fewer than in the same period last year, while the number of deaths was 82,550.

As a result, the natural population decline during this period was 18,300 people, marking the highest such figure in the history of records.
