Turkey’s Interior Minister: Over 35,000 Syrians have returned home after Assad’s overthrow

Turkey has announced that more than 35,000 Syrians have returned to their homeland following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. This data was provided by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

According to him, since the fall of Assad, 35,114 Syrians have returned to Syria, with an average of 1,672 people returning each day. “Since December 8, they have started to return to peace, security, dignity, and order,” Yerlikaya said.

He added that most Syrians are now primarily returning to Aleppo.

The minister also shared that nearly 3 million Syrians are currently in Turkey, with 805,000 of them being children born in Turkey. These children do not have Turkish citizenship and are under temporary protection status. “As soon as they cross the border, their temporary protection status ends,” Yerlikaya explained.

The Turkish government expects the number of returns to increase as summer approaches.
