A Polish soldier who opened fire on a civilian car on January 1 while under the influence of alcohol has been charged with attempted murder.
According to Onet, the soldier from the Podlaskie Voivodeship faces charges of attempted murder and abuse of authority. The prosecutor intends to file a motion for his arrest. The accused has partially admitted guilt, claiming he did not intend to harm anyone.
The incident occurred in the village of Mielnik, where the 24-year-old soldier shot at a civilian vehicle. Inside the car were a father and his 13-year-old daughter. Upon hearing the initial shots, the man drove forward while his daughter, panicked, exited the vehicle. Fortunately, neither was injured.
It has been revealed that the soldier had served in the Polish army for only nine months. He joined as a volunteer for short-term military service and, after a few weeks of training, was deployed to guard the border with Belarus.
