The Venezuelan government has announced a reward of $100,000 (€97,240) for information on the whereabouts of exiled opposition candidate Edmundo González.
González, who fled to Spain in September, faces charges of conspiracy, money laundering, and falsification of documents—accusations the opposition deems politically motivated.
Venezuelan authorities issued a wanted-style bulletin on social media, including a photo of González and instructions for reporting any information on his location. Initially, the authorities had promised a $500,000 (€485,965) reward, but the announcement was quickly corrected.
González’s legal team responded by stating he would embark on an international tour, beginning in Argentina, where he is scheduled to meet President Javier Milei on Saturday. Argentina has been a strong supporter of the Venezuelan opposition, offering diplomatic refuge at its Caracas embassy to five opposition members since March.
The reward for González’s capture follows months of warnings from Maduro’s allies about the consequences for the exiled diplomat if he were to return to Venezuela.
