Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticized Poland’s decision not to invite the Hungarian ambassador to events marking the beginning of Poland’s presidency in the EU Council, comparing it to “childish grievances.”
His statement was shared by government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács.
Poland reportedly did not invite the Hungarian ambassador to the event due to Hungary granting asylum to Marcin Romanowski, a deputy from Poland’s former ruling party Law and Justice, who is under investigation.
“After the situation with Romanowski, Minister (of Foreign Affairs) Sikorski decided that the Hungarian ambassador is not a welcome guest at the theater today,” said Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, Poland’s Deputy Minister for European Affairs.
“Pathetic and childish—those are the only words I can use to describe this decision,” Péter Szijjártó’s reaction was quoted by press secretary.
