The U.S. State Department, just days before the end of Joe Biden’s administration, has notified Congress of a planned $8 billion arms sale to Israel.
This information was confirmed by an unnamed U.S. official to the BBC.
According to the official, the arms package the U.S. intends to sell to Israel includes air-to-air missiles, Hellfire air-to-ground missiles, artillery shells, and bombs.
“The President (Biden) has made it clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law, as well as to deter aggression from Iran and its proxy groups,” the official added.
This is likely to be the final planned arms sale to Israel by Joe Biden’s administration, which will leave the White House on January 20, 2025, when Donald Trump is inaugurated as his successor. The U.S. is Israel’s largest arms supplier, contributing significantly to the development of one of the most technologically advanced militaries in the world.
