European countries have purchased a record amount of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, despite calls to ban such imports. This was reported by Bloomberg.
According to available data, the volumes of gas sold exceeded those that Russia had been supplying via Ukraine before January 1. Thus, Bloomberg notes that despite calls for a ban on such supplies, European countries are buying record amounts of Russia’s supercooled fuel.
The agency highlighted the challenges Europe faces in breaking ties with Russia, which has become a key supplier of raw materials to the continent over the past decade.
On January 7, it was reported that the price of gas in Europe dropped to its lowest point since December 31, 2024, during the latest trading sessions. The overall price decrease since the start of the day was approximately 2%.
