A majority of Americans believe that outgoing President Joe Biden will be rated “below average” or “poor” at the end of his presidency, according to a December survey conducted by the American research firm Gallup.
37% of American adults think Biden will be remembered as a “below-average” president, and another 17% believe he will be viewed as a “poor” president, totaling 54%. 19% of respondents expect Biden to receive a positive rating: 13% believe he will be rated “above average,” and 6% think he will be rated as “outstanding.” An additional 26% believe Biden will be considered a “mediocre” president.
Compared to the previous nine presidents, Biden’s rating is closest to Richard Nixon, whose overall score was 42 (calculated as the difference between negative and positive ratings, with Nixon receiving 54% negative and 12% positive). Biden’s score stands at 35 (54% negative vs. 19% positive).
Following Nixon and Biden in this ranking is George W. Bush with a score of 9 (33% negative and 24% positive). For Donald Trump (during his first term), the same score was 4: 44% negative ratings vs. 40% positive.
