On the evening of January 7, an emergency situation occurred at Chișinău International Airport when a postal shipment was suspected of containing an improvised explosive device.
Moldovan authorities became suspicious of a toy car in the package.
“During the processing of postal shipments at Chișinău International Airport, an item resembling a toy car was found. It was suspected to contain explosive components,” said the Moldovan Border Police.
The suspicious toy was spotted during X-ray scanning of packages.
Staff from the Center for Technical and Forensic Expertise of the General Police Inspectorate quickly arrived at the scene and removed the suspicious item. The device was safely neutralized on-site, and no evacuation or closure of the airport was necessary.
The incident is under investigation. The airport resumed normal operations.
