Slovak Ministers of Agriculture and Interior, Richard Takáč and Matúš Šutaj Eštok, suggested that the cyberattack on the country’s land registry last Sunday may have been launched from Ukraine.
This issue was discussed at a National Security Council meeting. The attack was the largest in Slovakia’s history. As a result, it has disrupted operations, but some local registry offices may resume work as early as next week.
The incident has negatively impacted the real estate market and mortgage lending. Authorities have assured the public that property rights of citizens and businesses will remain unaffected. The situation is further strained by tensions between Bratislava and Kyiv over the termination of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened retaliatory measures.
Initially, Slovak authorities attributed the disruptions to technical issues, but later confirmed the cyberattack.
