Germany plans to invest approximately 400 million euros in the creation of new maritime aircraft and the modernization of a military airbase.
This statement was made by the country’s Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, during his visit to one of the bases in the North Sea. According to Pistorius, this funding will allow the Nordholz naval airbase to become one of the most modern military airfields in Europe over the next decade.
Currently, all weapon systems of the naval aviation are being updated. The base will host eight Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and 49 NHIndustries NH90 helicopters. The new aircraft and helicopters will require the construction of additional infrastructure.
According to the German Navy, the main tasks of the Nordholz naval airbase include monitoring vast water areas and conducting air-sea warfare against targets both on the surface and beneath it. Additionally, naval aviators carry out search and rescue operations as well as the transportation of personnel and equipment.
