Switzerland has expressed its willingness to host a meeting between the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, regarding the issue of Ukraine, should they request it.
This was reported by the head of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ information service, Nicolas Bide, as quoted by Le Temps. According to him, Switzerland regularly informs Ukraine, Russia, and the United States about its readiness to support any diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing peace. However, Swiss authorities have no plans to proactively propose such a meeting, clarifying that they are simply one of the countries capable of providing a platform for negotiations.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his willingness to meet with Putin, including to discuss the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. On January 10, he stated that Putin had shown interest in the meeting, and preparations were already underway. The time and place for the meeting have not yet been specified.
On January 9, the Kremlin stated that no request had been made by Trump for a meeting with Putin. In response to the new statement by the U.S. president-elect, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Putin has always been open to contacts with world leaders, including Trump.
