Croatian elections won by incumbent President Zoran Milanovic

In the second round of Croatia’s presidential elections, incumbent President Zoran Milanović was re-elected for a second term.

According to the State Electoral Commission, with 98.65% of polling stations counted, he secured 74.58% of the votes. Milanović’s opponent, Dragan Primorac from the Croatian Democratic Union, garnered 25.42% of the votes. Voter turnout was 44.15%.

Today is a significant moment for me personally. I see this victory as recognition of my work and a sign of trust from the people, Milanović said in his victory speech.

In the first round of elections, held on December 29, 2024, Milanović also led with 51.48% of the votes, while Primorac received 19.29%.

Milanović represents the opposition Social Democratic Party and holds the largely ceremonial position of president. He is known for his criticism of military support for Ukraine. In the fall of 2024, Milanović refused to approve Croatian military participation in NATO’s NSATU initiative supporting Ukraine, stating that it could conflict with the country’s national interests.
