Train services in Poland have been severely impacted by dangerous ice conditions, with approximately 100 services delayed or canceled due to ice accumulating on overhead wires.
The disruptions began on Tuesday evening as freezing rain created a layer of ice on critical infrastructure. The eastern regions of Poland, particularly the Lublin-Warsaw line, have been the hardest hit by the icy conditions.
By 7 a.m., railway operators reported that over 570 trains had either departed or arrived off-schedule, with some delays lasting up to three hours.
Efforts to restore normal operations are underway, with crews working to remove ice from the wires. In particularly affected areas, diesel locomotives have been deployed as a temporary replacement for electric trains to ensure some level of service continuity.
