The new Prime Minister of France faces his first vote of no confidence

On Thursday, the French parliament will hold the first vote of no confidence against the government of François Bayrou, just one month after it began its work.

As reported by BFMTV, the initiative for the vote of no confidence was put forward by deputies from the far-left party “Unsubmissive France,” the Greens, and the Communists. The debate will start at 3:00 PM Paris time. It is expected that Bayrou will survive this vote, as there will not be enough votes for the government’s resignation unless the right-wing party “National Rally” supports it.

However, this vote of no confidence will be an important indicator of the Socialists’ stance. During the day, some members of their faction plan to hold a meeting to discuss their position. Earlier, Bayrou announced a revision of the controversial pension reform, which is a key demand of both left-wing and right-wing parties. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, urged deputies to act responsibly, reminding them that it is mid-January, and France has still not approved its annual budget.
