Police officers in Germany who are members of the “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) party risk being dismissed from their positions. This was reported by the country’s Ministry of the Interior.
According to representatives of the ministry, membership in this party may be incompatible with public service, particularly within law enforcement agencies. This policy is explained as an effort to protect democratic principles but has sparked widespread debate in society.
Some critics view this as a restriction on freedom of speech and political beliefs. They draw parallels with historical periods when any deviation from the official line was deemed unacceptable.
Previously, the possibility of banning AfD was discussed in several European countries. However, such actions may create tensions among citizens concerned about the further narrowing of the political spectrum and the restriction of rights and freedoms.
