Germany will provide up to 1,700 euros to Syrians who decide to return to their homeland

The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) will assist Syrian migrants who choose to return to Syria for permanent residence.

According to Spiegel, citing an internal message from the agency, Syria was included in the voluntary return support program for migrants last month. Syrians who are in the asylum process or are required to leave the country can contact BAMF for reimbursement of expenses for airfare and other travel, which is funded by both the federal government and state governments.

Additionally, returnees can receive up to 1,700 euros as a one-time aid payment. This grant can be increased to up to 4,000 euros for a family. The program also includes additional support for medical services in Syria, which can amount to up to 2,000 euros per person and be provided during the first three months after return.

Prior to this, Syrians could not access funding through the program since 2012 due to the risk of returning to a country embroiled in civil war. Recently, the agency has only supported federal states in implementing their own return programs, partially covering costs.
