Trump to sign executive orders banning “gender ideology”

President Donald Trump is set to sign executive orders on Monday that will reverse gender and sex-based initiatives introduced by the Biden administration, as well as eliminate diversity programs within the federal government, according to officials ahead of Trump’s inauguration.

The planned actions, outlined by an incoming White House official, reflect the culture war issues that were central to Trump’s campaign and his commitment to addressing them as president.

The first order mandates that federal agencies treat men and women as distinct sexes, halt the promotion of “gender ideology,” and require certain agencies to recognize only “male” and “female” on forms.

For instance, the State Department will require passport and visa applicants to accurately reflect their sex on official documents, the official explained. Federal prisons and migrant shelters will also be required to ensure “single-sex spaces” are maintained, the official added.

The order will also prohibit the use of federal funds for transition procedures and ensure Americans’ right to free speech, which the official stated may be compromised when individuals are asked to use preferred pronouns.

“No longer will the federal government be promoting gender ideology,” the official said.

The second order will target federal “DEI” (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs, with plans to dismantle these initiatives, including those related to environmental justice, equity grants, and other equity actions, the official confirmed.
