Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the issue of Ukraine’s NATO membership will derail any peace negotiations and should be postponed.
According to him, discussing this issue at the moment will undermine any efforts for peace talks.
I am convinced that NATO membership, as far as Ukraine is concerned, is an issue that would completely ruin any hopes for peace negotiations. Peace talks should primarily be based on the fact that Ukraine’s NATO membership will be postponed, he said at a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Bratislava.
Fico emphasized that the decision on this matter should be delayed to allow for constructive peace talks. He added that Slovakia would oppose Ukraine’s NATO membership due to the significant risks, which he compared to the threat of a Third World War.
