Viktor Orbán: Ukraine has no right to dictate terms to Central European countries

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Ukraine, which is in a difficult situation, cannot dictate its terms to Central European countries that are members of the European Union.

He expressed this opinion after meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava, as reported by Daily News Hungary.

The way Kyiv tries to build relations with Central European states is unacceptable. We are ready to respect them, but we demand respect for ourselves. And if we raise a serious issue, they must discuss it with us, Orbán noted.

The prime minister reminded that Hungary and Slovakia are full members of the EU, whereas Ukraine is still only a candidate for membership. He emphasized that EU countries are not obliged to follow Kyiv’s demands.

Orbán also pointed to the difficult situation in Ukraine, highlighting the loss of territories, the destruction of industry, and the country’s economic challenges. According to him, Ukraine should act more modestly under such circumstances.

They have lost a fifth of their country, their industry is in ruins, and they cannot sustain themselves, yet they act as if they are in a position to dictate terms to us. In reality, they are in the position of a petitioner, but even petitioning requires a certain skill, Orbán added.
