In Silesia, Poland, around 40 miners were evacuated to the surface after a methane explosion, and more than ten required medical assistance.
The incident occurred on the morning of January 22 at the Ścigłowice mine, located near the town of Knurów, west of Katowice. The management company reported that a methane explosion was most likely the cause.
At the time of the incident, 44 miners were in the danger zone at a depth of about 850 meters. By 11:00 AM, the evacuation was completed. Twelve miners needed medical attention.
In May of the previous year, a similar accident at another mine in Silesia resulted in the deaths of three miners.
Earlier this week, a mining accident also occurred at a coal mine in Slovenia, where two people lost their lives.
