The UK is initiating an antitrust investigation into Google. The investigation will assess the impact of Google’s search services on competition in the country.
This is not the first time Google has faced antitrust cases. In the US, a district judge ruled that Google is an unlawful monopoly in the online search sector. The judge also ordered Google to sell its Chrome browser and restrict the use of its search engine on Android devices.
In the EU, Google has violated antitrust laws several times. In 2013, the European Commission found that Google breached antitrust regulations by favoring Google Shopping in search results.
The European Commission also accused Google of monopolizing the digital advertising market and imposed a fine of 5 billion euros on the company.
In Australia, Google is also accused of violating antitrust laws. In Japan, the regulator found that the company violated antitrust laws by entering into contracts with smartphone manufacturers that limit competition.
