South Korean investigators have urged prosecutors to charge ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol with rebellion, abuse of power, and obstruction of parliamentary duties.
They interpret his actions on December 3, when he declared martial law and deployed troops to the parliament, as an attempt to undermine the constitutional order.
Yoon disagrees with the charges and views the imposition of martial law as a legitimate measure to protect against “anti-state forces.” His lawyers argue that his decision to lift martial law demonstrates a commitment to act within the law.
The parliament has approved Yoon’s impeachment, but the Constitutional Court must ratify the decision. Yoon remains president until the court’s ruling, despite his refusal to cooperate with the investigation.
