The Kremlin has stated that the war in Ukraine is not dependent on global oil prices.
This was said by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who was quoted by the Russian news agency “Interfax.”
The Kremlin representative was commenting on a statement made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested that lowering oil prices could bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
“No, this conflict does not depend on oil prices,” said Peskov.
“This conflict is happening because of the threat to the national security of the Russian Federation, because of the threat to Russians living in certain territories, and because of the refusal and complete disregard by the Americans and Europeans to listen to Russia’s concerns. It has nothing to do with oil prices,” the Kremlin representative reiterated.
In a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, January 23, Donald Trump said that he wants to push for a reduction in global oil prices, which, according to him, could help end the war in Ukraine.
