A fire broke out at the Iraqi embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, on January 27, causing significant smoke and prompting emergency measures. The blaze began around 11:00 AM and is still ongoing, with fire services working to control the situation.
Authorities advised people in the vicinity to keep their windows and doors closed and turn off ventilation due to the large amount of smoke. As a precautionary measure, a nearby high school was evacuated.
The fire department has deployed additional personnel and equipment, including a drone, to assist in controlling the fire. “We are still fighting it with all available means,” a fire service spokesperson confirmed.
The area surrounding the embassy has been cordoned off to allow emergency responders to operate safely. One person was treated for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
In a related incident, a fire also broke out on the night of January 27 in a building tower in the 12th district of Paris, where over a hundred firefighters were called to protect the structure.
