Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and a vocal advocate for anti-globalist movements, made a virtual appearance at an Alternative for Germany (AfD) rally on Saturday.
Speaking just weeks ahead of Germany’s pivotal February 23 election, Musk doubled down on his support for the party, calling it Germany’s “best hope” for safeguarding national identity and ensuring a prosperous future.
Musk, alongside AfD leader Alice Weidel, delivered a rousing speech emphasizing the importance of cultural pride. “Children shouldn’t bear the guilt of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents,” Musk remarked, alluding to lingering sentiments tied to Germany’s history. He continued, “It’s time to be proud of German culture and values, instead of watching them fade into a homogenized multiculturalism.” His comments drew cheers from the enthusiastic crowd of over 4,500 supporters.
The rally, however, sparked criticism from some international figures. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk voiced concerns, claiming Musk’s words carried a tone reminiscent of darker periods in European history. Likewise, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker raised eyebrows over the timing of Musk’s remarks, coinciding with the anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation.
Despite detractors, Musk remains steadfast in his alignment with the AfD’s vision. Previously, he’s criticized what he calls the“radical left’s obsession with erasing tradition” and has openly backed other anti-globalist leaders like Italy’s Giorgia Meloni. Musk’s partnership with Weidel has also sparked dialogue on his X platform, with conversations ranging from space colonization to refuting allegations tying the AfD to Germany’s Nazi past.
Weidel, responding to such claims, dismissed the Nazi party as a “communist socialist group” and argued the AfD stands as their antithesis. Echoing Musk’s sentiments, she declared, “We’re here to make Germany great again!”
Musk’s financial and ideological influence continues to ripple through European and global politics, underscoring his commitment to promoting sovereignty, innovation, and a revival of national pride.
