The famous painting “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci will now be displayed in a specially designated hall with a separate entrance, which will not be connected to the main exhibition of the Louvre, announced French President Emmanuel Macron.
Earlier, Louvre director Laurence de Car had mentioned that the museum was considering moving the painting to a separate gallery due to its immense popularity. She added that the current conditions for visitors wishing to see the “Mona Lisa” are not ideal. In 2023, more than 80% of all museum visitors, about 20,000 people daily, came to see this artwork.
Macron also announced plans for the renovation of the Louvre, including the construction of a new entrance in addition to the famous glass pyramid and the update of the surrounding area. The work is expected to be completed by 2031.
