Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who destroyed Germany through her pro-mass migration policies, took aim at CDU leader Friedrich Merz on Thursday, condemning his decision to pass a parliamentary motion with backing from the anti-globalist AfD.
“I believe it is wrong,” Merkel said, referring to Wednesday’s vote, which shattered a long-standing German political taboo. In a rare foray into domestic politics, she accused Merz of breaking his November pledge to secure majorities only with mainstream parties—not the AfD.
With the AfD polling second behind Merz’s conservative bloc just weeks before a federal election, the party remains under surveillance by German security services over alleged extremist ties.
Merkel urged “democratic parties” to unite in preventing violence, citing recent attacks in Magdeburg and Aschaffenburg. Both suspects had previously sought asylum in Germany, putting border and immigration policies at the center of the election debate.
