The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has stated that there are no signs of criminal activity or terrorism in the air crash involving a passenger plane and a military helicopter near Washington. This was confirmed in a comment for NBS News by an unnamed FBI representative.
Later, the Washington branch of the FBI confirmed that it is assisting local authorities. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the Department of Defense and the Army have launched an investigation into the incident. “The investigation was initiated immediately,” Hegseth noted.
Near Washington, an American Airlines passenger plane, while approaching Reagan National Airport for landing, collided in midair with a military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River. Official data on the number of casualties has not been released yet. However, according to CBS News, at least 18 bodies have been found in the river while search efforts for survivors continue.
