A TNT explosives plant will be constructed in the city of Pori, Finland, with the project cost exceeding 200 million euros.
This was announced by Finland’s Minister of Defence, Antti Häkkänen, as reported by Yle. He emphasized that this project, overseen by the Ministry of Defence, will play an important role in increasing ammunition production in Europe. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2028.
The project will be funded by allied countries, and the plant’s construction will be handled by the Finnish company Forcit, a producer of explosives. A significant portion of the products will be exported. TNT is primarily used for producing shells for artillery and mortars.
On December 30, 2024, the German defense company Rheinmetall and two Lithuanian state-owned companies signed an agreement to create a joint venture for building a plant for the production of 155mm artillery ammunition.
Additionally, on January 16, it became known that Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur proposed that the government consider establishing a plant for combat explosives.
