Fico criticizes the Czech Republic for interfering in Slovakia’s affairs and reaffirms commitment to the EU and NATO

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico once again criticized the Czech Republic for interfering in Slovakia’s affairs, this time addressing Czech Ambassador Rudolf Jindra.

He expressed dissatisfaction with Czech politicians and media commenting on Slovakia’s domestic policy, stating that it is unacceptable and goes beyond the bounds of decency. Fico emphasized that Slovakia’s foreign policy will not change, highlighting the country’s commitment to the European Union and NATO. He also rejected accusations of a possible exit from these organizations, calling them lies from the opposition, which he claimed is trying to sow discord and provoke a political coup.

Fico further stated that Slovakia will continue to criticize EU decisions if it deems them harmful to the union and individual member states. He defended his colleague, Vice-Speaker Tibor Gašpar, who had recently expressed ideas about the possible exit of Slovakia from the EU.

Regarding relations with Russia, Fico noted that Slovakia does not support the policy of a new Iron Curtain between Europe and Russia, aiming to normalize relations with the Russian Federation after the war ends. He confirmed his participation in the 80th anniversary celebrations of the victory over fascism in Moscow.
