Italian authorities have ordered immediate restrictions on the processing of Italian users’ data by the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek.
The measure was introduced to protect the personal data of Italian users.
Earlier, the news agency ANSA reported that the DeepSeek app had disappeared from Google and Apple digital stores in Italy. It was also noted that the app’s navigation was slow when downloaded.
At the end of January, Italy’s data protection regulator requested information from DeepSeek regarding the collection of personal data, including its sources, purposes, legal basis, and whether the data is stored in China.
Meanwhile, on Monday, DeepSeek, developed by a Chinese startup, surpassed ChatGPT to become the top-ranked free app available in the Apple App Store in the United States.
