15-year-old suspect arrested for series of school bomb threats in Hungary

Hungarian authorities have arrested a 15-year-old boy suspected of making terrorist threats after sending dozens of bomb threat emails to schools across the country.

Police announced the arrest on Saturday, February 1, following an investigation into a wave of threats between January 26 and 30. The teenager, identified by cyber specialists, confessed to sending threats to at least 46 schools.

The suspect was detained at his home in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, northeastern Hungary, where police seized IT equipment and backup data. He admitted that his intention was to scare students and cause school evacuations. While most schools were chosen at random, one targeted institution was a vocational school he had attended before dropping out two months ago.

Hungary has faced two major waves of school bomb threats in recent weeks, including an incident on January 23 affecting over 100 institutions. The investigation is ongoing.
