The headquarters of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington, located in the Ronald Reagan building, has been closed.
This decision was made by the new administration. According to Fox News, the agency’s plaque has been removed from the office building. The computer systems of USAID, containing confidential information, are now under the control of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by entrepreneur Elon Musk.
According to the Congressional Research Service, the agency managed funds amounting to approximately $40 billion last year. Earlier, Donald Trump announced plans to fire the leadership of USAID, claiming that the agency was run by “radical lunatics.”
At the same time, Republican Senator Joni Ernst shared information about how the agency had threatened her when she tried to investigate how humanitarian aid funds were being spent in Ukraine. In a conversation with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator Mike Lee, and Musk, she revealed that threats followed her questions about USAID’s spending.
