German police conducted searches in several apartments in the federal states of Saxony and Thuringia following an attack that took place in Zwickau in the summer of 2024.
According to Spiegel, law enforcement officers seized brass knuckles, batons, mobile phones, and laptops. The raids were part of an investigation into an attack by a group of masked individuals, allegedly holding left-wing views, on ten people in a city park.
The Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) reported that seven suspects, aged between 16 and 34, might be involved in the violent assault. During the incident, the attackers used telescopic batons and pepper spray. As a result, three victims required medical treatment.
Police searched apartments in Zwickau, Schwarzenberg, Dresden, and the Saalfeld region. The suspects were already known to authorities in connection with other criminal cases.
Investigations into politically motivated violence continue in Germany. In January, six people were arrested for alleged links to a left-wing extremist group involved in attacks on right-wing activists in Hungary.
