For the first time, the right-wing populist party Reform UK has topped the list of the most popular political parties in Britain, according to a new YouGov poll commissioned by Sky News.
The poll shows that Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, has the support of 25% of British voters. The ruling Labour Party, under Keir Starmer, follows closely with 24%, while the Conservatives trail at 21%.
Other parties in the poll include the Liberal Democrats with 14% and the Green Party with 9%.
Although Sky News notes that the results remain within the poll’s margin of error—Reform UK had recently been in second place—its rise to the top reflects a major shift in British politics. However, due to the UK’s electoral system, direct public support does not necessarily translate into a proportional number of seats in Parliament.
Still, the party’s lead boosts its electoral credibility and could attract more voters away from the ideologically similar Conservative Party.
Currently, Reform UK holds only five seats in the 650-member House of Commons, but its growing popularity signals that it is becoming a significant force in a political landscape long dominated by Labour and the Conservatives.
