Ukrainian refugees in the UK may find themselves without housing and jobs due to the lengthy visa renewal process, The Guardian reports.
According to the new rules, applications for visa extensions can only be submitted no earlier than one month before the current visa expires. However, due to delays, some Ukrainians have already faced rental refusals. Additionally, some refugees have been forced to temporarily stop working, as employers fear fines for hiring individuals with expired documents.
Amid this situation, activists are urging the UK government to automate the visa renewal process to speed up the processing of thousands of applications. It is expected that starting February 4, when the application window opens, the UK Home Office will receive a significant number of requests.
