France rejects Trump’s statements about taking control of Gaza

On Wednesday, February 5, France rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments that the United States could take control of Gaza, and that Palestinians could be relocated elsewhere, stating that such actions would violate international law and destabilize the region.

This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine.

According to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country “again opposes any forcible relocation of the Palestinian population from Gaza.”

In a statement, Lemoine emphasized that such a decision would be a serious violation of international law, “an attack on the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians, as well as a serious obstacle to the solution of the two-state principle and a major destabilizing factor for our close partners Egypt and Jordan, as well as for the entire region.”

Lejeune added that Gaza’s future must be within the context of the future Palestinian state and should not be controlled by a third country.

It is worth noting that on the evening of February 4, Trump stated that the U.S. might “take control” of Gaza and “do real work,” turning the Palestinian territory into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
