Historic warehouse building on fire in Poland’s Gdansk: residents warned of toxic smoke

A historic warehouse building is on fire in Gdańsk, Poland, and residents have been warned about toxic smoke.

The fire broke out in a centuries-old building, over 100 years old, on Port Island. The building housed a warehouse containing more than a thousand regular and electric bicycles, as well as over a thousand batteries.

Around 60 employees were evacuated, and fortunately, no one was injured. The fire did not start directly in the warehouse, but city residents have been urged not to open windows and avoid going outside due to the risk of toxic smoke.

Part of the roof of the building collapsed, and smoke clouds are visible for miles around. About 150 firefighters are involved in extinguishing the fire.
