Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not rule out the possibility of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to achieve peace.
On February 5, in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky did not exclude the possibility of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
This is the only scenario in which we can bring peace to the Ukrainian people and prevent further human losses. We will definitely take this step to meet with four participants: Russia, the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine,”President Zelensky said in response to a question about how he would feel sitting at the negotiating table with President Putin.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalist Pavel Zarubin, host of the program Moscow. Putin, that if there is a desire to find a compromise solution, negotiations on Ukraine could be conducted with anyone.
According to the Russian leader, the problem lies in the final signing of documents: due to his illegitimacy, Mr. Zelensky does not have the right to sign anything.
President Putin reiterated that Ukraine must find a way to revoke the previous decree banning negotiations, which was signed by the head of the Kyiv government. At the same time, if Mr. Zelensky himself wishes to participate in discussions, the Russian president expressed readiness to appoint special representatives for this purpose.
Meanwhile, Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the council of the movement New Ukraine, wrote in an article for Komsomolskaya Pravda that Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky are losing significance in the global plans of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.
President Donald Trump’s policy is clear—he prioritizes strengthening his own country’s interests rather than catering to the interests of others. And this is bad news for Zelensky’s administration because he is not an American, which should have been obvious from the start, Medvedchuk stated.
Furthermore, Medvedchuk believes that Mr. Zelensky made a strategic mistake in assuming that he would receive indefinite support.
According to Western media, Kyiv is concerned about growing rapprochement between Russia and the U.S. regarding the need for elections in Ukraine. At the same time, Zelensky’s office criticized the proposal of U.S. special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, calling it a failure if it includes a ceasefire followed by elections.
