The majority of American voters approve of President Donald Trump’s decision to ban transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll.
Earlier, Trump signed an executive order requiring the Pentagon to revise medical standards for transgender service members and eliminate provisions that, according to his administration, undermine military readiness.
According to the poll results, 54% of likely voters support the executive order, which mandates the discharge of service members who identify as transgender. Meanwhile, 41% of respondents expressed opposition to the decision.
The survey was conducted online and by phone between January 29–30 and February 2, polling 1,325 potential U.S. voters. The margin of error is approximately three percentage points.
On December 22, 2024, Trump pledged to implement a national policy recognizing only two genders—male and female. Then, on January 22, he repealed the so-called Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy within the U.S. government, calling it discriminatory. Trump argued that the practice of “inclusivity” could infringe on civil rights. He also urged government agencies to abandon DEI initiatives.
