At the start of the working day, the leaders of several schools discovered emails, received around 5 a.m., containing threats about a possible explosive device and immediately contacted the police.
The threats were received by 16 educational institutions in Zagreb, several in the areas of Dubrovnik and Šibenik, as well as in five schools in Split, and in Zadar, Čakovec, and Sinj. In response to the messages, educational activities were suspended, and students were evacuated. Some institutions canceled classes for the entire day.
After inspections by the police, the threats were found to be unfounded, and no traces of explosives were found in the checked buildings. The police believe all the emails were sent by the same person.
At the end of January, similar threats were received by hundreds of schools in Slovenia, and earlier such messages were observed in Hungary. In Hungary, the involvement of a 15-year-old teenager is being considered in connection with these incidents.
