In Bremen, police used firearms against a 38-year-old man who charged at several officers with a knife.
According to a statement from the city police, the incident occurred on Thursday night in front of the main train station. The attack took place at around 3:30 AM local time, but the exact reasons behind the incident have not yet been determined.
The injured attacker was immediately taken to the hospital, and investigative authorities have launched an inquiry. Law enforcement officials have called on potential witnesses to provide information. As part of the investigation, it is being determined how many times the officers fired at the attacker.
In the fall of last year, Germany tightened restrictions on carrying knives. This was in response to a terrorist attack in Solingen during a city festival, as well as an increase in knife-related assaults. Subsequently, the German Ministry of the Interior demanded stricter enforcement of the ban, particularly at Christmas markets.
