Germany: Illegal migrant commits 50 crimes in 30 days, judge repeatedly sets him free

A migrant from Guinea-Bissau unleashed a crime spree in Germany, racking up 50 offenses in just a month, yet a judge repeatedly refused to deport him—allowing his rampage to continue.

The 30-year-old terrorized the town of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony, attacking police, harassing locals, trespassing, committing fraud, and assaulting the same bakery worker twice in one week. When authorities finally detained him, the court refused to authorize his deportation, citing procedural issues.

His violence escalated on Jan. 27 when he punched a bakery employee for demanding payment. Though police intervened, he was merely banned from the premises. Days later, he returned, headbutting and biting the same woman before bystanders restrained him. Again, police took him into custody, but the judge set him free.

Despite having a fake Portuguese residence permit and a deportation order since early January, he repeatedly ignored authorities and continued his crime spree. Hours after his last release on Feb. 2, he dined at a restaurant and refused to pay—again landing in police custody.

Following mounting public outrage, the court finally decided to keep him behind bars—but only for a week.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party had already flagged the case, with lawmaker Stephan Bothe questioning Lower Saxony’s interior minister, Daniela Behrens, on the government’s handling of the situation. After the migrant’s latest crimes, Bothe blasted the authorities’ response as “an unimaginable failure” and called the judge’s decision “irresponsible.” The incident is now under review by the Interior Committee.
