An investigation has been launched in France against the social network X

The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation against the social network X (Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, on suspicion of potential “algorithmic distortions.”

According to France Info, citing the prosecutor’s office, the investigation began after a complaint from French deputy Éric Bottorel, representing the “Together for the Republic” party. On January 12, Bottorel sent a letter to the Paris cyber prosecutor’s office, claiming that the algorithms of Musk’s social network were biased.

The prosecutor’s office believes that these algorithms may have affected the operation of automated data processing systems. Additionally, investigations into the X platform are ongoing at the European Union level since December 2023 under the Digital Services Act (DSA). Media reports suggest that in January, the European Commission concluded a preliminary investigation and will soon decide on imposing a multimillion-dollar fine.

Meanwhile, a court in Germany has ordered Musk’s platform to disclose information that would allow tracking the spread of data potentially influencing election outcomes.
