Ex-government contractor on trial in Britain for disclosing national security information

42-year-old Juan Joseph appeared before a London court on February 7, facing two charges related to breaches of the Official Secrets Act in November 2024 and January 2025.

According to the prosecution, Joseph leaked data related to security or intelligence that he obtained while working within the UK’s intelligence community. These actions are alleged to have caused damage. Prosecutor Jane Stansfield stated that the defendant worked within the intelligence community but did not specify the exact organization. She also noted that the information he possessed was unrelated to international relations.

The prosecutor explained that the data leak could have harmed the operations of organizations within the UK’s intelligence community and even posed a threat to the safety of individuals. Joseph, who is representing himself, denies the charges. The next court hearing will take place on February 14.
