In Gdańsk, several thousand farmers booed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived in Poland for an off-site meeting of the European Commission.
The protest was organized in response to the EU’s climate policy, known as the Green Deal. Farmers gathered near the European Solidarity Center to express their dissatisfaction with stricter environmental regulations, which they believe lead to higher production costs, reduced competitiveness, and job losses. When the European Commission delegation arrived at the event, protesters began to whistle, beat drums, and chant, “Out, Ursula!”
According to the protest organizers, the Green Deal will result in rising energy prices and have a negative impact on the European economy.
Trade unions emphasize that the EU’s environmental initiatives have already led to the closure of businesses in key sectors of the Polish economy, including agriculture, metallurgy, energy, and automotive industries.
