The Swedish government is moving to tighten gun control laws following a deadly shooting at a school in Örebro, where 11 people were killed, including the attacker.
The Swedish government and the Sweden Democrats, who typically support coalition initiatives, are calling for stricter gun legislation in response to the shooting in Örebro.
The proposed changes include restricting access to certain types of semi-automatic weapons, such as AR-15 rifles.
Additionally, there are plans to strengthen safeguards in the process of issuing gun permits to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of individuals with mental health issues.
The police and healthcare authorities are also expected to be given the mandate to create a system for notifying relevant parties about people who should not be trusted with firearms.
On February 5, a shooting took place at an educational institution in Örebro, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, including the attacker, and many others were injured.
