Poland has declared that it will not comply with the requirements of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which was approved in May last year.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized this during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, one of the pact’s main supporters.
Poland will not implement the migration pact, as it would lead to an increase in migrant quotas of any kind in our country.
Warsaw has long opposed migration quotas, citing significant pressure from accepting hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees and managing illegal migration across the Belarusian border. The European Commission president urged Poland to reconsider its decision while acknowledging the difficult situation.
However, Warsaw not only refuses to accept migrants but also to pay the compensation stipulated in the pact for opting out of its obligations. As the current EU Council president, Poland is actively pushing its stance at the Union level.
