Trump stated that he wants to reach a nuclear deal with Iran, not “bomb it”

U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with the New York Post, expressed his desire to reach an agreement with Iran on nuclear issues, emphasizing that he would prefer this over the use of military force.

He noted that Iran does not seek conflict and that no one wants death. Trump added that if such an agreement were reached, Israel would not attack Iran.

However, Trump did not specify what conditions might be offered to Iran, saying only, “I will not bomb them.” He also expressed hope that Iran would make the right decision and refrain from actions that the U.S. believes could lead to conflict.

Earlier, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump signed an executive order reinstating the “maximum pressure” policy on Iran amid reports of Iran continuing its development of nuclear weapons. Iran, for its part, insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Trump reminded that in 2018, during his presidency, he pulled the U.S. out of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement. Under this deal, Iran agreed to reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium by 97% and limit its enrichment level to a threshold that would prevent the uranium from being used for nuclear weapons.

In November, Iran’s Supreme Leader’s advisor, Kamal Kharazi, stated that Iran could theoretically develop nuclear weapons, but the only obstacle remains the religious fatwa issued by Ayatollah Khamenei, which bans the production of nuclear weapons. Some senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have suggested lifting this ban.
